Frequently asked questions
Is there really a free tier?
Yes. Every account gets 5 adaptive practice questions per day, forever, with no credit card. Your child also gets the full placement diagnostic so they start at exactly the right level. Upgrade when you want unlimited practice, full animated lessons, and progress reports.
Is there a free trial on paid plans?
Yes β 7 days of full access, no credit card required up front. If you don't subscribe after the trial, your account automatically drops to the 5-questions-per-day free tier. No charges, no data loss.
How do you compare to Khan Academy's free tier?
Khan Academy is free but its math is video-first and self-directed β great for motivated older kids, less so for kids who need structured practice with visual, grade-appropriate content. Khanmigo (Khan's AI tutor, $4/mo) is a chatbot; we don't use a chatbot because every lesson on MathBuddi is scripted, animated, and previewable by parents. If you want a free, video-based, DIY path, Khan is excellent. If you want an adaptive session that meets your kid exactly where they are and ends on a win, that's us.
How do you compare to IXL and Prodigy?
IXL's SmartScore is the #1 parent complaint online β one wrong answer can drop your kid's score dramatically and crushes confidence. We use 'Almost!' feedback and streak forgiveness instead. Prodigy is a fun game but parents report heavy upsell pressure and the platform doesn't actually teach concepts β it just tests. MathBuddi teaches with animated lessons first, then practices; one flat price; nothing gated behind cosmetics.
What's the difference between Individual and Family?
Individual is for one student. Family lets you add up to 3 children, each with their own login, diagnostic, and progress tracking. Parents get a dashboard to see all their kids' progress and control settings like focus topics and report card visibility.
Can I cancel anytime?
Absolutely. Cancel from your account settings and you won't be charged again. Your data stays available until the end of your billing period.
What grades does MathBuddi cover?
Kindergarten through Grade 12. The adaptive diagnostic will find your child's exact level regardless of their school grade, and the questions are procedurally generated for every grade level.
Does MathBuddi use AI to generate questions?
Questions are procedurally generated β infinite variety, guaranteed correct answers, instant generation. Our progress reports, speed analysis, and 2Γ2 diagnosis system were designed by AI and run automatically after every session β no waiting, no extra cost.
Can I choose what topics my child practices?
Yes! On the Family plan, parents can set focus topics per child β for example, 'Long Division' or 'Fractions'. The session generator will prioritise those topics.
What if my child is way behind or ahead of their grade?
That's exactly what the adaptive diagnostic is for. It tests up and down until it finds their true level β whether that's 2 grades behind or 3 grades ahead. All practice is then tailored to their actual ability, not their school grade.
